The Curriculum

You May Be Wondering...

Yes. When each class reaches the level of experience and competence that they are ready, we open a student clinic with affordable massages for the public. To be among the first to know when pointments are available, please sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media.
No, we are not connected to FAFSA and we do not offer in-house scholarships. However:
1. We do offer payment plans.
2. We can also provide information and ideas for finding or borrowing money to pay for school.
3. We have connections with a couple of sweepstakes-style scholarships that give awards based on random selection every few months.
It’s neither especially hard nor especially easy. You should expect to study regularly, practice consistently, and put in effort. Students who show up prepared and engage with the course material succeed.

Our instructors and program staff are dedicated to supporting you in finding study methods that work best for you.
Licensure requires 625 instructional hours. Our program is 20 hours per week over approximately 8 months This includes classroom instruction and supervised student clinic hours.
1. High school diploma or GED
2. Age 18 or older
3. Completed application and interview
The total for tuition, supplies, and insurance is $12,000. The national exam and your initial license application and registration are additional and paid directly to the testing body and the licensure board. Payment plans are available for our tuition.
Graduates of Harpers Ferry School of Massage meet the 625-hour requirement for licensure in West Virginia, and the 600-hour requirement for Virginia. We also have a free list of no-additional or low-cost courses that bridge the gap to Maryland’s 750-hour requirement. In addition to the education requirement each state requires a passing score on the MBLEx exam, preparation for which is a part of the HFSM curriculum. If you're interested in licensure in a state besides WV we'll discuss that process with you before enrollemnt.
Classes are designed to accommodate adult learners. We typically run daytime (9am to 1pm) and evening (5-9pm) cohorts and may add other formats depending on demand.
Our instructors are licensed massage therapists with years of experience and a passion for teaching. They are committed to preparing students to enter the profession with both confidence and competence.
It is. A career is massage therapy is lucrative, flexible, and inherently rewarding. The financial cost of the program can be reasonably expected to pay for itself within the first year of practice, accounting for a gradual building of reputation and clientele.
Massage therapists work in a variety of settings, including:
1. Wellness clinics and spas
2. Chiropractic and medical offices
3. Sports and fitness facilities
4. Private practice
Our program also includes business and ethics training to help you pursue self-employment if you choose.
We are located in Charles Town, WV, convenient to Jefferson County and the surrounding region.

Our classroom is in the Great Barn building at the beautiful and historic Claymont Society for Continuous Education.
You can begin by submitting an interview request, or an application form, or contacting us at admissions@harpersferryschoolofmassage.com. We’ll schedule an interview and provide the next steps from there.
